I’m hooked on reading! You should be too!
I’m fortunate in the fact that I’ve always loved reading, and even more so to have the time to do it this summer. I just went to my favorite used bookstore in the L.A. area – The Iliad in North Hollywood, and bought six books for 25 dollars! Plus grabbed one from the free box outside!
So… over the next couple of weeks I will be reading the following books, I’ve either not read, or have not read in at least 10 years. The arbitrary reading order is by book height.
The Red Badge of Courage – Stephen Crane
This is pretty standard high school reading material… that was never in my curriculum. I enjoy Civil War era stuff, so I figured this would be a fun, interesting, short read.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – Mark Twain
Growing up along the banks of the Mississippi, I’ve obviously read this book… as well as visited all the Mark Twain sites in Missouri. It was a long time ago, though, and I really don’t remember it that well. So, that will be book 2.
Light in August – William Faulkner
I’ve not read this, but one of my favorite subject matters is the South… I am a Southerner by family heritage and choice… so I am looking forward to this one, for sure.
The Blind Assassin – Margaret Atwood
Not read it. Heard it was great. International bestseller and winner of the Booker Prize. Atwood is a pretty damn amazing writer. Should be a treat.
Reading Lolita in Tehran – Azar Nafisi
Margaret Atwood says all readers should read it. So, I better listen.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn – Betty Smith
*hangs head* I’ve actually never read this! Selected as one of the Books of the Century by The New York Public Library. I hear they know a lot about books.
Underworld – Don DeLillo
I’ve heard a lot of great things about DeLillo, but never read any of his work. Should be great, if not, it is heavy enough for a door stopper.
